physics selection test - done!

James has still yet to call me to confirm the day for science quiz training. Hmph.

Anyway, the science quiz kids had their selection test for physics yesterday. Score wise, some did very well, while others we just so-so. Shaun had the highest for the test, which came as no surprise to everyone since he’s good at the subject. He did very well for someone in sec 3 (well at least by his school standards, since I don’t know how good the RI people are exactly), since some of the questions were slightly above A level standard, and he got most of those right.

If the selection criteria was based on the physics results alone, then that would mean having to change the names that were previously submitted by Mr Loh, based on predictions on how well the students would do. But with biology and chemistry to be tested, who knows what the final grouping will be? I’m pretty sure Shaun and Ma Yin will be in the VJC team, because they are the strongest 2, but who the other 2 people will eventually be, no one can know for sure. It’s even harder to say for certain when James doesn’t take biology (but did rather well in the physics section), and Xin Jie does not take physics but take biology instead. For the rest it’s easier to roughly gauge where they may stand.

But then… now I have a problem. I have 8 people currently in the science quiz team, but I can only send 4 for the VJC competition and 3 for ACJC. That means 1 person will not get the chance to represent, unless Mr Loh pulls another 2 people randomly to form a second team for ACJC. But Ivan didn’t come for the physics selection test, and has missed quite a number of lessons. I was thinking of maybe dropping him from both teams, but if he comes for the biology and chemistry ones and does well… should I still consider him by letting him retake the physics test as well?

driving orientation lesson

I (finally!) went for the first driving lesson today. Being the first lesson, it was more of the instructor explaining things to me rather than me getting into the car and driving myself. The only part where I got to “drive” was when I just had to get the car to go forwards and backwards - just to get used to controlling all the pedals. It still feels a bit weird when I’m doing that clutch-accelerator-brake routine, and I always have problems controlling the accelerator well because the pedal is so sensitive! Stalled the engine once or twice when I just started trying because I accidentally let go of the clutch when I wasn’t supposed to. Oops. Anyway, my instructor… he has a tendency to go off pitch when he’s speaking. He’ll be speaking with his usual voice, and then suddenly the voice becomes high-pitched for the next word or two. -.- And he keeps calling me lady… I don’t know, it just feels very weird for me.

Science quiz selection test tomorrow afternoon, and I have to rush down to the driving centre straight after the lesson. If we don’t get to start the test at 2pm I may have to end early… can’t be late tomorrow when I have a test!

what a coincidence

People seem to like to call, message me and everything when I’m bathing. The whole day my phone has been so quiet and there’s no one else in the house either, and suddenly when I’m bathing all the messages and calls come. And I end up with dinner bought home by my mum when I’m meeting my friends for dinner later, just because I missed her call and she went ahead to get food. But at least I can have that when I get home, since I need to eat something before I can take my antibiotics. I’ve given up taking the cough syrup already since the taste is really disgusting, and I can’t possibly be feeling drowsy the whole day when I have other things to do. Like 150 MCQs to type out, out of which I’ve only done 100. -.-

First driving lesson tomorrow. I’m finally stepping into the car after so many delays.

sick

I woke up today feeling much better - that is until I took my medication. I always end up having to drink lots of water to get the pills down, as well as to get rid of the nasty taste left by that cough syrup. Soon after taking the medicine I went to the room and rested while reading a novel. And my brother went to the living room to spraypaint his Gundam models. The smell was really horrible, and there were slight traces of it in the room, even though I had closed the door and switched on the air-conditioner. I ended up feeling nauseous and rather unwell, trying to fall asleep instead of continuing to read but I just tossed and turned in the bed. Eventually I fell asleep, and after waking up I feel so much better.

I’m really not sure if it was the medication or the smell (or maybe the combination of both?) that caused this. I was fine after taking the medication last night, just a bit drowsy because of the cough syrup. I really hope the same thing doesn’t happen again tonight. I ended up calling in sick and deciding not to go for science quiz training later. I know I can make it there to teach, but I think I would be better taking a rest at home for the rest of the day.

I really dislike being on medication, but I’m stuck on antibiotics for a week. I’m going to stop taking the cough syrup once my cough gets better though, I really can’t stand the taste and smell of that. Makes me want to puke.

still coughing

I just came back from the polyclinic. It’s been about a month already and the cough still hasn’t gone away, so my mum dragged me to the doctor’s. The doctor says the cough is actually quite common, and nothing really serious. But I still have to take antibiotics and this absolutely nasty tasting, bright pink cough syrup. >< And the antibiotics comes in these really big tablets which are so hard to swallow. I end up drinking tons of water just to get it down, but thankfully it’s more or less tasteless. The label says erythromycin something… can’t really remember. But it’s good to at least know a little of what type of antibiotic it is. :p I hope it goes away in a week…
