shucks!

How could I have forgotten that I was supposed to be ushering for service today?! Last sunday, I know I had checked the list of ushers for the coming week, and somehow I don’t remember seeing my name. But I think it’s more probable that I had seen my name, and somehow I had forgotten about the whole thing during the course of the week. Sigh. Getting to caught up with studies and other stuff?

A one and a half day long weekend is really too short for me, but this is what my weekends will be like for the next two weeks. About 4 weeks left of school! (Till the exams that is…)

organic chemistry practical

Having to go back to school to do my lab practical today = :(

Lab was really draggy. We were supposed to extract caffeine from tea leaves, and by the time the prof finished giving us an introduction and explaining the procedure, about an hour has already passed. The practical was supposed to last for 3 hours, and that meant that we should finish everything within 2 hours if there were no mistakes.

Today didn’t seem to be a good day for Sherry and I though.

1. The filter papers seemed to have something against us, because it took forever for our tea leaf extract to filter. While others finished filtering in a rather short amount of time, we took 1 whole hour to finish filtering what was about 2 filter funnels of liquid. Even the groups who redid the experiment because they had made mistakes along the way were faster than us!

2. We had to do a separation later after adding an organic solvent to the liquid, and our separation funnel was leaky. Minor liquid spillage + having to get another separation funnel so that we won’t get any more leakages.

3. The air in the lab was really dry, and that and all the chemical really dries up your hair. I can feel the big difference in my hair before I go for my practicals and after I leave. Makes the ends of my hair feel really really dry and rough. >< In the end, we only managed to finish around one. When we left, there were other groups still doing their experiments, and I wonder what time did they get to leave the place. If only the filtration went much faster! Until now I still have no idea why ours took so long to filter. But I think that the apparatus are really cute, because the conical flasks and round-bottom flasks are so small! XD I'm sure no one else thinks that way.

2 more weeks of saturday lab sessions... at least I think that they're better than computer labs, especially the last one where I spent about 3 hours measuring torsional angles. ><

Google Maps

I was trying to see if I could connect to Google Maps, and this time I finally managed to establish a connection. Was just poking around at the map of Singapore, and the orientation just felt kind of weird to me… took me a while to find what I wanted.

My house! The area around the train station looks like a small forest, with so many trees.

boohoohoo

1/4 of my big toenail is gone - it came off. I’ve always had this fear of having my toenails come off, because I think it’s disgusting, and now… sigh. It’s gross. ><

Ok, atually it doesn’t feel that bad, but I don’t like having the flesh on my toe exposed, and risk getting stepped on again. Does that mean going to school with my toe wrapped up for who knows how long? And no slippers during lab work, and I don’t think I can wear my flats if my toe is bandaged. Not sure if my feet will fit into the shoe. =/ How long will the nail take to grow out again?

I shall always remember to look at where I’m walking towards even when I’m taking on the phone. And not let people step on my feet!

and it’s off to school again.

A week of holidays just passed so quickly. I don’t feel like going back to school yet! Plus my 6 day school week starts from tomorrow onwards, and that isn’t exactly something I’m looking forward to. Just my luck that my group is the only one that has to go back on saturdays for lab I guess.

As compared to my usual school days, this week was so much more relaxed, and I felt as though I had so much more time to spare. After all, on days where I leave for school early in the morning and only return home after 8pm, I don’t really get to do anything much after I get back since I go to sleep around 12. But good things must always come to an end…

5 more weeks left for this semester! I’m pretty sure these 5 weeks will pass rather quickly, with midterms for some subjects coming up as well. Lots of lab reports to be written and everything. Exams are only about 2 months away, but it’s the holidays after that! XD
