i don’t feel like studying.

All the red packets I’ve recieved over the new year holidays are still left lying in my drawer unopened. I don’t really have the urge to open them or anything, unlike the time when I was younger and would open them right after I got home just to see how much money I received. The money doesn’t really matter that much to me anymore.

I had initially planned what to do today, but with my parents suddenly deciding that they wanted to go out, all my plans were changed. Oh well, it’s not as though I go out with them very often anyway, and they rarely go out to shop that much nowadays, so I should accompany them. My mum bought like what - 5 pairs of shoes at one go! Just this morning I realised that a lot of my mum’s old shoes had been cleared out of the cupboard, and I was thinking that I would have space to put in the new pair of shoes that I bought last week. I guess I can forget about that now. -.- I don’t understand why she needs so many pairs of similar shoes. They’re all either covered shoes, or those open toe ones with the strap across in front, and another at the back, and all made of leather or leather-like material. And they only come in 3 colours: black, brown or blue. And my mum is the one who keeps saying that my slippers all look the same. o.O

It’s back to school again tomorrow, and I think i’m going to have some problem trying to wake up so early.

my paternal relatives

Lunch at my uncle’s place yesterday, and for once almost all my relatives turned up. Usually some of them would be away, or come so late that a few families have left. (We meet for lunch you see.) When we were just sitting around, eating and chatting, cousin Christina mentioned that during gatherings like these, the women would sit and talk while the men would just sit and watch tv. Quite true I think. Especially for all my aunts. ;) And we all got to see Christina’s second child. She’s barely 6 weeks old, and so tiny! I think Christina still looks so pretty even though she’s 30 already, and has given bith twice.

In recent years, the paternal side of my family has expanded rather quickly. A few years ago there was this period of time where a few of my uncles and Christina all got married, and a few years after that the ladies were all pregnant. So now there are lots of toddlers around, to the extent that most people can’t remember who’s who. There’s such a huge age gap between the older cousins and the younger ones as well. For a few years, the youngest cousin was Nelson, who’s now in sec 1. After the arrival of more cousins, there’s now a huge age gap between him and all my cousins that are still toddlers. That’s largely due to the fact that a lot of my uncles got married late, and one of my aunt’s is even a year younger than Christina. Some of my younger cousins will probably feel weird having to address Bethany and her sis as their aunts, even though they’re of the same age or older than their aunts.

You know what? I have no idea how many immediate relatives I have on the paternal side, because it gets so confusing when I try to count. And when you add in my distant relatives, that’s a whole lot more. Most of my distant relatives are still in China actually, but some of them have come over to visit. I never knew that I had distant relatives in China until last year or the year before, when we heard from them. Who knows, we might go over to visit them one day?

I wonder how both of my grandparents would have felt if they were around yesterday. Seeing all their new grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. But i’m sure that know everything from up there.

i got bored…

New layout. :) A very simple one this time, and if you don’t see it as your default, it’s the first one on the dropdown menu. The archives page has a big gap between the header and the content though, and I really can’t figure out what’s wrong. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

Happy Chinese New Year. :)

the day seems to drag on…

It’s Chinese New Year’s eve, and i’m so bored because I have nothing to do. My reunion dinner is eaten at home with my immediate family, while tomorrow is the day I go around visiting all my relatives. It’s usually going to church first thing in the morning, lunch with the paternal side, and dinner with the maternal side of the family. Fully packed. Mum’s hanging up the Chinese New Year decorations now. What for, I don’t know, because we’re almost always the ones going out to visit others rather than having people over at out place.

I can’t seem to find something to occupy myself with. I don’t feel like touching any work at all, and there’s nothing nice to watch on TV. Why can’t they show nicer programmes during the holidays rather than those shows that no one has heard of before, or those that they seem to show all the time during the holidays. I’d go on MSN, except for the fact that my wireless connection is unsteady and I can’t login, and I don’t think a lot of people will be online anyway.

Oh well. I’ll find something to do eventually.

here comes my long weekend

Am I the only person that edits my lecture notes (or rather power point slides)? No I don’t edit them because i’m free and have nothing better to do, but because some of the slides that the lecturers put up seem so disorganised. You get huge text and small images, and when you decide to print 4 slides on a sheet of paper the text still looks big, but you can barely make out the labelling or text in the pictures. And some lecturers have text all over the place, in all kinds of fonts as well. Whenever I see slides like that I just can’t leave them untouched. And I don’t like it when pdf files are put up instead of the powerpoint file when I want to edit the content. If you didn’t already know, i’m a perfectionist.

Chinese New Year falls on this sunday, and i’m not the least bit excited about it, nor am I in the mood for all the festivities yet. I think that as you get older, all the excitement and anticipation just seems to wear off. Whenever Chinese New Year is approaching, people start buying all the new year goodies and the like. Some people redecorate their houses, buy new clothes, so spring cleaning… and the list goes on. Why all that hype? I guess to me right now, Chinese New Year just feels like one of the other holidays that we have here. I’m certainly more of a Christmas person, because Christmas has a special meaning for me. But of course, I certainly don’t mind the 2 days off from school next monday and tuesday. :)
