I received another one of those “you won a prize!” calls yesterday. Now since when did I get so “lucky”? *rolls eyes*
The person on the other line told me that the prize was a makeover. Said something about my name being entered into the lucky draw because I bought something about 4 months ago, and all the customers had their names entered for the draw. Well, in the past few months, I paid for my purchases in cold hard cash. And I haven’t filled in any of those lucky draw coupons either. So if there really was a lucky draw of sorts, how would the company have ever gotten my details in the first place? I can see how something like that would have been possible if someone had paid though their credit cards or even NETs, but you’re telling me that you can enter my name into some lucky draw and then track me down when I had never left any details? How fishy.
But I think that they were quite smart by giving such an explanation. After all, there are lucky draws held in various shopping centres from time to time, and for those who had taken part in those before, I don’t think they would really recall which ones they had taken part in, and which companies would be sponsoring the prizes. Especially when they are being told that it happened months ago. I guess they were just counting on people to think that they really had won one of those draw they had taken part in, and just go to “claim their prize”. When you give them some sort of excuse, saying that you won’t be free or something, they always tell you that you can go down to claim your prize the next day, and they can fix an appointment for you. Hmm… so you won’t have so much time to think about it and realise that the whole thing sounds a bit fishy?
“You won’t have to buy anything.” the person tried to reassure me, but don’t they always tell you that and then try to push you into paying for their services in the end? I’m sure most people have heard of incidents like that.
Too bad for the company who called though, because I’m not going to be taken in by anything that was said. At least this time round the person wasn’t pushy, and she had a nice accent as well. Hahaha. I wonder how many people actually believed the whole thing though.
But still, the question is, who is the one that’s giving out my contact details?!
