a sigh of relief

Finally, I can relax again! This time round the first 5 papers were packed really close together (within 8 days!) and the last one was much later. It was tiring having to study for so many papers in such a short time, but come to think of it, this might well be the best arrangement possible.

The Drug Discovery and HRM papers came first, and they were only a day a part. Drug Discovery is the one that has the most content, and HRM is something I’m really bad at. But thankfully, these 2 being the first papers, I could just focus on studying for them first and not have to worry about the rest of the subjects since they covered less content.

Genomics was next, and I had just enough time to study for it at a comfortable pace. Then came my Social Inequalities and Stem Cell papers, one in the evening and the other the very next morning. I only had 2 full days to study for these, and I was rather concerned that I might not be able to complete everything. But on the bright side of things, I just needed to pass the Sociology paper (since I S/Ued it), and I had studied for all except 1 lecture for Stem Cells since there was a test not too long before the exam period. If it was 2 other papers that were on those days instead, I seriously doubt I would have able to finish studying without sacrificing my sleep. (I should really start my revision earlier next time! Heh.)

And the last paper which was yesterday… Pharmacology. 6 days sounds like a lot of time to study for one paper, but honestly it’s not! At least when it comes to Pharmaco. After 6 days of studying I still couldn’t recall many of the drug names, and for those I could recall, I had problems linking the name to the function and the disease the drug is prescribed for. :( I have this feeling I bombed this paper rather badly. :S But I don’t want to think about it anymore! Now it’s time for me to relax before I start my internship on Monday.

pharmaco pharmaco pharmaco

Finally, there’s only 1 paper left to go. Having 5 papers in a span of 8 days is really mentally exhausting. But looking at the bright side of things, at least I have 6 whole days to study for the last paper, and the more time I have for this the better! It’s feels impossible to memorise all those (100+) drug names and functions for Pharmacology, and I always forget the drug names just after reading it. :( It’s quite frustrating sometimes. If there’s an effective way of remembering these things, please tell me!

Look at my wall of drug names. :S

last post before the exams

The lectures have been completed and the course contents covered. The lab sessions have long since ended, and all the lab reports and projects have been handed up. Yup, it’s the end of the semester once again.

This semester seemed to pass by like a blur. For the first few weeks, I was enjoying the feeling of being more free as compared to the same period of time during the past few semesters. Having a four day school week is a nice feeling! Then the projects started coming in. When the recess week came, I spent 4 days on project meetings, and those meetings continued until this week. And then the next thing I know, the dreaded exams are here again!

I have 3 papers this week, 2 the next, and 1 on the very last week of the exams. Right now my greatest concern is for the first 2 papers, which happen on consecutive days. There’s a whole ton of content to understand for Drug Discovery, and the worst thing is that even the most minute details have been asked in the previous exams. :( It’s so difficult to remember all those details! The next one is HRM (Human Resource Management), and it’s one of those things I just don’t get. Anything business or management related is just not my sort of thing! My brain just doesn’t think in the way required in these areas.

in point form

  • The other day I was walking through the carpark in my estate while on my way to school. I heard the sound from a motorcycle behind me, but when I turned to look, I saw a bicycle with an engine attached behind. And the person on it was riding it just like a bike. -.-;
  • I can’t stand drivers who don’t bother to stop when the lights are red and the green man is already on. I met one such driver the other day, and he didn’t even bother to slow down even when it was obvious he couldn’t pass the red light. Good thing no one was crossing the road from the side where his car came from, if not the consequences could be disastrous! I guess it’s always a good thing to check whether the cars have stopped before you cross the road, even when the green man is on.
  • I’m so sick and tired of doing projects! They’re really time-consuming and take a lot of effort. Why do I still have a group report to do even when it’s the last week of school before the exams start. :(
  • SK Sze’s paper was used as a reference in one of the Wikipedia articles. It could be another person with the same name, but then again, what’s the chance of someone with the same name being in the field of proteomics as well?
  • I think the school has to do better when it comes to scheduling lab sessions and lessons as well. I see no reason why there should still be lectures covering new content the very week before the exam. I think it probably has something to do with the coordinators themselves though… and those lecturers who always get sidetracked and end up not being able to finish their lectures.
  • Now that the Jdramas and anime I have been watching this season are over, I thought that I’ll finally be able to concentrate on my work. But no… there’s always other stuff to watch! Youtube is evil too. I see some nice shows that are about to start soon! Must control…
  • I only realised the other day that you can watch higher quality videos on Youtube by adding &fmt=18 at the end of the url. Doesn’t work for some of the older videos though.
  • A massage would be seriously nice now! My back muscles feel strained.
  • It’s exam time again. :( Stress levels are rising…
