magic chart…?

My dad was clearing out some of his old stuff yesterday, and I saw this on his table last night:

It’s a piece of plastic with a pretty rough surface. It says “Magic Chart” at the top, but what does it do? If you squint really hard you can sort of make out the text at the bottom of the photo, which says that this sheet of plastic allows you to draw straight lines without the use of a ruler.

Since that’s what it says, of course I had to try it out for myself to see if it’s true!

As you can see, my lines were still not perfectly straight. Seems like it’s not that useful after all? :S I think using a ruler is still more convenient anyway. I don’t remember having seen something like that in the shops here; maybe it wasn’t popular so they stopped producing it? The “Magic Chart” dates back to 1999 anyway.

Since I was transferring the photos from my camera, I shall just add this one as well.

My lunch on Sunday! Unagi don set from Shin Kushiya, which was really yummy! There was salmon sashimi included in the set as well, but it’s hidden in the photo. Their tempura don is pretty good as well. Worth trying! :)

This week has been a pretty busy one for me, mainly because of the immunology test we had on Thursday. Of all the subjects I’m taking this semester, this is the one that has the most content. At this level, immunology is no longer like what we used to learn back in the secondary school and JC days. Rather than just T cells and B cells, you now have to know that there’s Th1, Th2, Th17, Treg and some more subtypes. Even dendritic cells are no longer just dendritic cells. All that plus the 101 cytokines and chemokines there are out there… Having to know all these is just crazy! How does anyone remember all that. :S Thankfully only 7 topics are tested for the exam out of the 13 topics we have to learn. The lesser the better! Especially when my exam dates fall really close to each other this time round.

After the test yesterday I’ve been preparing for Sunday’s lesson. I have to prepare the powerpoint slides with the lyrics of the worship songs as well, since Mao is away this week. And since Hongen is away as well, their class will be joining mine for lesson on Sunday. Ling Hao is in Hong Kong, so it’ll be just me and 20 students on Sunday. That’s a lot!

Next week should be a rather busy week as well. I have to start studying for the muscle bio test, and prepare for another Sunday school lesson. I’ll be doing sharing on the same day as well, so that’s another thing I have to start thinking about. And then there’s the last cell bio assignment to complete. And after all that… it’s the exams. T_T And FYP will probably start in December.

Speaking of FYP, the choice submission system has just closed. I have 1 other competitor for my top choice of project. (I wonder who that person is.) I do have priority since I’ve been attached to the same lab before, and hopefully that is enough to work in my favour! In the event that I’m so unlucky, I’ll most likely get my third choice, which is an external project. Looking at the statistics, my top ranked project has 29 people who listed it as one of their 10 choices, and my second choice project has 32 people who listed it. Every other project has less than that. -.-; Somehow I have this knack of choosing things that a lot of people would choose as well. Like in auctions! T_T We’ll find out in about 3 weeks what projects we’ve been allocated to, and hopefully I’ll hear some good news then. Hopefully. I don’t dare to get my hopes up to much just in case.
