It’s been close to a month since Poster Day passed, and finally, here are some of the photos! -.-

My poster! I actually thought it looked quite empty as compared to some others. But still, I quite liked how it turned out. :)

silence

We sit silently and watch the world around us. This has taken a lifetime to learn. It seems only the old are able to sit next to one another and not say anything and still feel content. The young, brash and impatient, must always break the silence. It is a waste, for silence is pure. Silence is holy. It draws people together because only those who are comfortable with each other can sit without speaking. This is the great paradox.

— Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook)

Been reading quite a bit these days, and these sentences left a deep impression on me when I was reading the book a couple of days ago.

With people, I think that there are 2 types of silence. You know how people sometimes bump into acquaintances while on the bus or train? They make small talk, but as the journey goes on, they both run out of things to say to each other. Silence ensues, but it makes both parties uncomfortable, so they try to find something to talk about just to break that silence. In the case where both parties can’t find anything to day, they just sit together in that uncomfortable silence. When it’s time to part ways, they then feel a slight relief, not because they dislike the other party, but rather that the situation was just too awkward. That’s the first type of silence – the uncomfortable silence.

The second type of silence is the one that the author described – a comfortable silence, and it usually occurs between you and someone you are close to. You both know each other well, and are able to simply enjoy each other’s company in silence without feeling awkward. I think that type of silence is beautiful, and something that not many people are able to share. Probably not a lot of people appreciate it though (silence = boring?), which I think is a pity.

By the way, I enjoyed the book, and I especially liked the letters that Noah and Allie wrote to each other. Their story was a touching one, and it kind of makes you wish that you’ll be able to find your own Noah or Allie in life. There was a movie version made, and I wonder if it’s worth watching? Seems like the ending is different though…
